a vintage woolly wander in shetland with wandering ewes
A Wooly Wander in Shetland checks all the boxes for a fiber enthusiast. I left Shetland with a better understanding of its history and how sheep, wool and fiber played a part. I fell in love with the peole and the landscape and can't wait to return. What a magical journey!

It makes a difference when the guides are passionate about the places and subjects they are guiding you through. Fiber Ambassadors Sydney and Helen each truly loved what they shared with us about the crafts, materials, history, culture, etc. of Shetland. Their love showed, and having that love and passion shared with their group was a real treat.

Our first tour with Rowan Tree was packed to the brim with a wonderful balance of activities and shopping and sight seeing and fiber-crafts learning. Timing was impeccable and we felt like we really saw Shetland and experienced the local culture and feel of the landscape. My mom and I had a wonderful time and we felt that everything was well planned. Our fiber ambassadors Sydney and Helen enriched our time there tremendously with stories and knowledge. Our guide Beth was fantastic as well! She was funny and enthusiastic. Thank you ladies for such a fun and easy trip for someone who wasn’t even a knitter!

If you are looking for an opportunity to visit Shetland with a group of curious knitters, if you are curious about what makes Shetland a special and unique set of islands, if you welcome wind, rain, and sun, then the a Vintage Wooly Wander could be for you. I would take this trip again just as soon as I knit up all the beautiful yarn I purchased on this visit.

Shetland is a knitter’s wonderland. The people, the history, the scenery, and the wool are equally inspiring. I hope to return!

This was my second trip with Rowan Tree and I can’t wait to schedule a third. The Fiber Ambassadors are top notch and I feel like I get a curated, relevant to my interests tour, along with exposure and interaction with local people and their culture.

This was my 3rd trip with Rowan Tree and again, I was not disappointed! Our trip was thoroughly thought out and a great mix of craft, history, and culture. I will continue to travel with Rowan Tree and highly recommend!

This Shetland experience was the best trip I've been on so far. It's such a tiny part of the world, which I would never have known anything about. Sydney and Helen truly brought it to life, with trips back and forth along the islands, including visits to a great mix of museums, beaches, and farms. We heard so many stories about the people and changing lifestyles throughout the years. We learned much about the sheep and the way they are managed. Our Fair Isle hat workshop with Ella Gordon got us started on the search for the perfect color way. I brought home so much beautiful, special yarn from the multiple shops we visited. And don't forget the ending of many days with a wonderful dish of Sticky Toffee Pudding! Thank you for such a great experience.

This trip is the PERFECT blend of culture, fiber, and fun!! I learned so much about Norway -- it's culture, history, and traditions. The workshops are incredible and I definitely have some new fiber hobbies. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking -- I'll be dreaming of fjords and green mountains for a long time. And I traveled with some of the most interesting and lovely people I've ever met! As someone who participates in group tours as a solo traveler, it was a delight to find myself in such good company, both with the other tour guests and the trip leaders. I can't wait to go back to Norway!!

norway unravelled: knits, traditions & nature
I highly recommend the Norway Unraveled trip! The itinerary is excellent and we did a lot of interesting things from fiber mills, to "living" museums, to working farms to staying on a tiny remote island and former fishing facility. Truly unique and truly special. Traveling with Birger and Sydney is an utter joy. They make for an exceptional team and you will have a blast being on their trip. This is a very special trip and you'll learn a lot about Norway in general and Norwegian knitting as well.
