Make - Walk - Explore:
The Lake District

April 14 - 21, 2023
TRIP IS FULL

Join us on the picturesque banks of England's spectacular Lake District for a week-long retreat filled with walks, communing with sheep and their people, and taking time to be inspired creatively by the landscape.  Our home base for the week will be Bankground Farm, perched right on the banks of Coniston Water, and looking out at The Old Man of Coniston.  From here we will take boats across the water to scenic walking points and neighboring farms where we will learn about keeping sheep in the Lake District, and have plenty of time to relax.  We will take an excursion out of the area to learn about the literary greats of the region: from William Wordsworth to Beatrix Potter.  The Lake District has attracted many people who fundamentally defined the Lake District as we see it today.

  • Shared Room, 2 people ($3300)- WAITLIST ONLY

An Ionian Knitting Odyssey

May 25 - June 4, 2023

Available Spaces!

Single Accommodations

2 cabins (2 people)

Shared Accommodations

1 cabin with 2 beds (2 people)

Join us for a floating knitting retreat in the Ionian Islands of Greece! We will enjoy the adventure of life aboard The Aegeotissa II - a 12 cabin boat which looks like a pirate ship! With 7 days to enjoy 5 spectacular locations in the Ionian Sea, you will have plenty of time to swim, nap, knit, nap, eat and
explore! Fabulous food is served for both breakfast and lunch on board the boat as well as in the many tavernas you will have to choose from in port. Our normal days will be spent motoring to a new location in the mornings after breakfast, a swim stop at an enticing and remote beach while lunch is prepared, and then a short journey to port where you can disembark and explore. We will have a visit with ladies from a textile association on Kefalonia who are preserving the textile traditions of the island, and a farm visit to learn how to cook the traditional meat or vegetable pie of the area and perhaps to learn how to dance? Of course we will have an easy knit-along shawl project designed by local designer, Maria Zilaku
with Treliz! Yarn and a chance to pick out your own skein from her bold and colorful collection while we
are in Athens.

PLEASE NOTE: Accommodation on the Aegeotissa requires going up and down ship ladders (very steep stairs), walking
across a gang plank to get on and off the boat, and being able to keep your balance while we are
underway.

Wool & Whisky
Our Signature Tour

September 7 - 19, 2023

Rowan Tree Travel & Fibercraft has its origins in creating trips to Scotland. Almost a decade later, it’s still our favorite destination. We love introducing our travelers to the country’s stunning landscapes, vibrant cities, friendly and irreverent residents and longstanding wool traditions. Our Wool & Whisky tour provides busy days and relaxed evenings at authentic Scottish inns and small hotels. We will visit a whisky distillery or two, wander through picturesque villages, including visits to our favorite fiber artisans on Skye and time in the quaint town of Pitlochry - and we will enjoy farm-to-table (or sea-to-table!) meals all along the way. Sometimes our tour will coincide with the Perth Festival of Wool or the Highland Games, but as dates are not yet set we cannot guarantee these activities  .We will, most definitely, visit Edinburgh, Scotland’s capital. It’s a beautiful city, full of stunning architecture and bustling city life. We simply cannot wait to take you to Scotland. See you there!

Knitting in the
Canadian Maritimes
September 13 - 24, 2023

Come with us to Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, as we explore this portion of The Canadian
Maritimes! We will visit farms and mills highlighting the vibrant fibre production in the region today,
from wool to alpaca and even linen! Of course, we will have to pay homage to resident literary
figure, Anne of Green Gables, while on Prince Edward Island, and we will have plenty of time to walk
on it's famous red sand beaches, and visit local artisan shops. Rug hooking is the region's most
traditional craft, and we will have the option to try our hand at it in a small project with a woolly
twist! When we head to Nova Scotia, we will explore its history as well as its fibre, from the Mi'kmaq
people and the Arcadians, to The Citadel in Halifax and the Maritimes Museum. Accommodation will
be in grand old inns and characterful cottages, all within view of the ever present ocean. We will
have a workshop on the magical wooliness of thrumming before starting on a knitalong project with
local yarn.

Tour Cost, per person:
  • Single ($5450)
  • Flex ($5000)
  • Ultra Flex ($4700)
  • Shared ($4300) - waitlist only for two beds option
