Wool & Whisky
Our Signature Tour

September 7 - 19, 2023

Rowan Tree Travel & Fibercraft has its origins in creating trips to Scotland. Almost a decade later, it’s still our favorite destination. We love introducing our travelers to the country’s stunning landscapes, vibrant cities, friendly and irreverent residents and longstanding wool traditions. Our Wool & Whisky tour provides busy days and relaxed evenings at authentic Scottish inns and small hotels. We will visit a whisky distillery or two, wander through picturesque villages, including visits to our favorite fiber artisans on Skye and time in the quaint town of Pitlochry - and we will enjoy farm-to-table (or sea-to-table!) meals all along the way. Sometimes our tour will coincide with the Perth Festival of Wool or the Highland Games, but as dates are not yet set we cannot guarantee these activities. We will, most definitely, visit Edinburgh, Scotland’s capital. It’s a beautiful city, full of stunning architecture and bustling city life. We simply cannot wait to take you to Scotland. See you there!

Highlands and Islands

Spring 2024

Our much anticipated Highlands and Islands Edition of our signature Wool & Whisky tour will explore the most northerly regions of mainland Scotland - from Inverness to Dunnet Head, around the spectacular coast to Ullapool.  We will venture to the Orkney Islands, head by ferry to the Outer Hebrides, then fly to Glasgow.  This tour will cover a lot of ground, a lot of history, a lot of textile traditions - and just a wee bit of whisky!  Small yarn producers, indie dyers, tapestry artists and that iconic Harris Tweed will all be featured, along with farms keeping rare breed sheep!

Walking Adventure in Scotland's Outer Hebrides

Not Yet Scheduled

Off the west coast of Scotland lies an archipelago of islands, known to Scots as “the Western Isles”. These islands, from tiny Barra in the south, to the more well known islands of Lewis and Harris in the north, are home to the largest population of Scottish Gaelic speakers and are the only place allowed to produce the famed Harris Tweed. The landscape varies greatly, from soft, white beaches to rugged mountains, fields of flowering machair, bogs and lakes aplenty. Days of hiking alternate with time at local crofts, ferry crossings, farm-to-table restaurants, seasonal events and the unforgettable Callanish Standing Stones.
