Dyeing to Stitch in the Scottish Borders
September 3 - 9, 2022
Join Rowan Tree Travel for a colorful retreat in the Scottish Borders! We will learn the art of dyeing with indigo from Lindsay Roberts, a.k.a. the Border Tart, enjoy a rich evening of storytelling as well as many evenings (and days) of fine Scottish food. A Rowan Tree trip wouldn't be complete without visits to local fibre artists and mills, some farms and gardens. Explore the sights of the Scottish Borders with us as we go to castles and museums and learn some amazing history. Did we mention that you can live like a Lady or Lord? Highlands & Islands Edition
September 10 - 23, 2022
Our much anticipated "Highlands and Islands" edition will explore the most northerly regions of Scotland, from Inverness to Dunnet Head and around the spectacular coast to Ullapool. Along the way, we will venture to The Orkney Islands and then head by ferry to The Outer Hebrides before flying to Glasgow. This tour will cover a lot of ground, a lot of history, and a lot of textile traditions! (And just a wee bit of whisky.) Small yarn producers, indie dyers, tapestry artists and that iconic Harris Tweed will all be featured, along with some visits to farms keeping rare breed sheep.

Knitting in the Canadian Maritimes
September 26 - October 5, 2022
Come with us to Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia as we explore two of the three Canadian Maritime provinces. On Prince Edward Island, known as The Gentle Island, we will visit alpacas and mills, walk on it's famous red sand beaches, visit local artisan shops, learn the traditional craft of rug hooking and dance at an island ceilidh. In Nova Scotia the fibre reverence continues with a linen mill tour, woolen blankets, sheep and yarn and unabashedly more yarn! In the charming town of Chester, we will have a Double Knitting workshop with the amazing Lucy Neatby, with a follow up Zoom lesson when you get home. Accommodation will be in grand old inns and characterful cottages, all within view of the ever present ocean.

A Wool Lover’s Visit to the North of England
September 26 - October 6, 2022
Join Rowan Tree Travel for a fiber-infused exploration of England’s northlands. We’ll be adventuring through the Yorkshire Dales, the beautiful Lake District, across moors, through towns and villages, plus enjoy the coastline of Northumberland. A grand crew of artisans, yarn farmers, designers and historians will meet with us to convey the story of this region’s rich textile history and the current state of its wool industry. Of course, there are wonderful, iconic inns and amazing food to be had… as befits any Rowan Tree Travel tour. We’ll even stay in our own castle for a couple of nights. What could be better?
