A Wool Lover's Visit to New Mexico

We are excited to host you fiber enthusiasts in the Land of Enchantment (New Mexico). This part of the United States has history, people and a landscape unlike any other. Come for a week of amazing food and sunny skies. Get to know our mosaic of cultures. And, of course, we'll spend time with local wool/fiber animals /artisans. This tour is focused on Northern New Mexico, and includes time in Albuquerque, Santa Fe and Taos.

Iceland, off the beaten path

March 18 - 29, 2022   FULL

Our adventure starts at the tip-top of Iceland, with whale watching and a visit to spectacular volcanic lake, Myvatn. Next we travel around the east coast of the country. Authentic food, rugged landscape and coastal views will be ours. The trip southward then breaks for a mini-retreat inside Vatnajökull National Park. And once in the south, we'll visit Iceland's famous black beach at Vik and get to know the fiber community on the Woolen Circle. Might we catch a view of the Northern Lights??? We'll certainly be on the lookout! Our trip concludes in Reykjavik. Easy to add on a day or two for exploring the city.

A Fiber Adventure in Copenhagen & the Faroe Islands
April 23 - May 1, 2022     FULL
This tour is a study in contrasts - the windswept and rugged beauty of the Faroe Islands and the cosmopolitan buzz of the streets and canals of Copenhagen.  Before our time in the Faroes (including a Faroese knitting festival!), we will enjoy a weekend in Copenhagen - cruising the canals, visiting royal palaces and modern design museums.  Regardless of where we are, we will delight in the hygge (cozy) experiences as we gather together to knit and as we catch glimpses of the arrival of Spring!

Wild Wool in Wales with Bristol Ivy

May 16 - 24, 2022

Join us in Wales for a Wild and Woolly Retreat with Bristol Ivy.  Not only will we be "knitting outside the box," we will be thinking and living outside of it as well.  Accommodations will be rustic as we experience "glamping" - a comfortable and rather luxurious version of camping!  In addition to the typical sightseeing involving castles, we will include gardens, cathedrals, museums, seaside villages and walks along the coastal paths to remote beaches.

Join us for a walking and creativity-filled trip overseas. We've chartered the Aegeotissa, a 100+ foot motorsailer, and will be sailing from island to island while including hiking (4-6 miles), swimming, visiting villages, markets, artisans, archeological sites, and sampling local food. Each morning will offer a facilitated, creative work session.

In between, we’ll journey through lively towns, scenic countryside, meet Irish makers and fiber artists, visit historic sites, enjoy farm-to-table venues, try a bit of Irish whiskey and enjoy good Irish craic in the local pubs. Knit the Greek Isles Fantastic with Louis Boria & Gaye Glasspie

June 24 - July 3, 2022

Join Rowan Tree Travel & Fibercraft and our extrememly talented and wonderful guest hosts Louis Boria (Brooklyn Boy Knits) and Gaye Glasspie (GG of GGMadeIt) on a tour of the Greek Isles.  We'll travel through the Aegean Sea on board the 100+foot motorsailers, Aegeotissa I and II, knitting on deck together with Louis and GG, swimming in the crystal blue waters and exploring ashore the six majestic islands on our itinerary.  When we return to Athens after a week at sea, we'll spend two days/nights taking in the historic Plaka district.

Wool & Whisky II:
Highlands & Islands

September 10 - 23, 2022

Our much anticipated "Highlands and Islands" edition will explore the most northerly regions of mainland Scotland, from Inverness to Dunnet Head and around the spectacular coast to Ullapool.  Along the way, we will venture to The Orkney Islands and then head by ferry to The Outer Hebrides before flying to Glasgow.  This tour will cover a lot of ground, a lot of history, and a lot of textile traditions!   (And just a wee bit of whisky!)  Small yarn producers and indie dyers, tapestry artists, and that iconic Harris Tweed will all be featured, along with some visits to farms keeping rare breed sheep!

Knitting in the Canadian Maritimes

September 26 - October 5, 2022

Come with us to Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia as we explore two of the three Canadian Maritime provinces. On Prince Edward Island, known as The Gentle Island, we will visit alpacas and mills, walk on it's famous red sand beaches, visit local artisan shops, learn the traditional craft of rug hooking and dance at an island ceilidh. In Nova Scotia the fibre reverence continues with a linen mill tour, woolen blankets, sheep and yarn and unabashedly more yarn! On the rather small island of Big Tancook, we will spend a day with Lucy Neatby in a private workshop on double knitting. Accommodation will be in grand old inns and characterful cottages, all within view of the ever present ocean.
